Farm/Homestead in MD vs VA

Hi, I'm new 'round here! We are going to be buying a property in the DC area in the near future and are hoping to have a small farm, including animals. Does anyone know, between MD and VA, if one state has stricter regulations regarding livestock animals? I know that counties and cities can also have their laws and regulations in addition to any state laws, but is one generally more relaxed than the other? I'm not really sure where to look to find this information, not to mention that policy language has always been very confusing to me! Thanks!

Here is a link for some info for MD. You can go to the similar site for VA and compare.
You could also find some agricultural colleges and just call, many times academic people are happy to share what they know.
And the city-data site has forums which are very useful for information.
I totally think you are right on the mark in exploring regulations as an important part of your planning.

Here is a link that might be useful: Maryland
