Buying land dirt cheap in Vermont area?

I've just turned 18. I've got no credit history to speak of, though I plan to begin gradually building one soon. I've got a little money saved up, and a very good job in central Vermont.
I'm still living with my parents, but I'd like to move out. Renting sounds like a terrible arrangement, paying off a mortgage for somebody else while having to put up with the hassles of having a landlord.

Here's what I'm looking for, though it may well not exist:

A piece of land for sale, an acre or less, which I can park a VW bus on, and grow a little garden. The thing is, I want it for around $10,000.

How possible is that?

It has to be withing about 50 miles of Middlebury, Vermont, because that's where I work, and I don't want to leave my job ($20/hour, 40 hours/week, for me, an 18 year old without a degree. I couldn't find better if i searched for a lifetime.)

Any ideas?

Can't find an 'edit' button to fix my post, but I wanted to correct--"... be *within* about 50 miles ..." not "withing."

Stay with your parents until you can buy a lot with a mobile home or the like. Nothing like a flush toilet and a hot shower. AND don't let go of that job!!!!

Here is a link that might be useful: vt listings
