RE: Ideas

About 60 years ago, I was a kid in a small Texas town. We were dirt poor and only ate well when we visited my grandmother who had a large garden and raised chickens. At about the age of 9 or 10, I realized that in order to eat like we did at grandma's, I needed to raise chickens and have a garden. My first chicken coop was made from wooden produce crates that I collected from the garbage behind a grocery store. I dismantled the crates and used the wood to build the coop. I made nest boxes from the same material. The chickens helped me control the insects in my newly planted garden. We ate fried chicken, black-eyed peas, okra, tomatoes, squash, turnip greens and onions. Where there is a need, a way will be found.
