Cheap land for 'going green'?

Posted by dsea83 (My Page) on

I am interested in buying land on which to build a small cabin and hunt/trap/grow food. It would need to be near a stream/river to maintain the hydro-electric system, so I was looking at Minnesota or Western/Northern New York. Any other suggestions?

I used to live in upstate New York. A word of caution -- the taxes are HIGH. You can buy land for a decent price, but the taxes on food, clothing, income, etc. are wicked. Hope this helps!

I have been researching this as well. I have seen some good prices on land in Minnesota even with live water on it. I made a trip there once, it is beautiful. Good luck!

Here is a link that might be useful: my new blog

This site has a few links to various companies that offer rural land for sale. The price may not be the best, but they offer owner financing with little or nothing down. I haven't purchased from any of these companies, but I am always watching to see what new parcels become available. I hope this is helpful.

The Ozarks have cheap land with low taxes.
