Urban Homesteading and Toxic Firewood

Living in an urban area I often have the opportunity to pick up firewood from trees people have had cut down in their yard and then left on the road side. Since Hurricane Frances passed thru, there has been lots of oak for the taking, but usually the choices aren't that good. Is there any danger in burning the wood from any of the ornamentals that are common in the southeast? I know to stay away from oleander, but what else out there could cause toxic smoke? Right now I have some golden raintree and some other unidentified ornamental I'd like to burn this fall. Any urban homesteaders out there have any experience with this kind of stuff?

Thanks!
