Fencing

I am considering re-fencing my place with a fence that can hold heavy vines, like gourds and/or melons. Do any of you have anything like that?

To completely fence the whole property, I would need about 900 feet of fencing on the road frontage (east and north), two gates, and about 400 feet shared with a neighbor to the south, where there is just a barbed wire fence (very old and falling down) now. Another side has about 438 feet of beautiful cross-board redwood fencing six feet high, sandwiching cattle wire, that my neighbor to the west put in and maintains.

I would not replace the redwood fence, but the other three sides could be put to work as a support for vines which would produce a cash crop of gourds, I think. Have any of you done something like that?

what kind of fencing do you have? What kinds of gates are you using, and do you lock them?
