 o
wood oven question for the deep south

I've always though a wood stove (I have a wood stove heater but not the oven type) would be a great way to be just that little bit more independent. Heres a question though. Does the oven stoves heat up the room? I ask cause with our mild winters (and hellish summers)a stove that generated room heat would not be all that pratical down here.

We use ours in the winter and it really keeps the heating bill down. We have a heat pump, but it really doesn't feel warm when it gets below 30 degrees.

Oh yeah, you betcha.

The gas range was the greatest thing that ever happened to the southern cook, for that reason. Finally the kitchen could be in the house instead of in the lean-to or seperate shed.

My grandad has a wood cookstove in north florida; he doesn't use it anymore but it is tolerable for a least half the year.
Even up here in mass my wood cookstove is too warm for five or six months; also it drafts very poorly in the warm months. So to me it's worth having one for the cold season only.
