Living my dream! :)

Hello all! I have been a lurker here for years! I have been so inspired by all of you!
On Sept 1, my boyfriend and I rented a house on 5 acres. We now have 5 hens( actually just chicks at this point!) and a turkey! Huge garden in progress!!! I am so happy I can't stand it! I am still working off property, but we are zoned so that I will be able to run my dog grooming shop from the property. I am homeschooling my 13 year old son and will start with my 4 year old daughter soon!
The plan is to get some experience with this lifestyle and hopefully purchase property in 2 years when our lease is up!
Just wanted to let folks know that it is possible to live this dream if you are willing to start slow and work hard!!! This forum has given me so much inpiration and knowledge! Thanks so much to all of you!
If you are interested, here is link to see my girls and their new coop that my BF built for them! http://photobucket.com/Kristasgirls
Would love to know what breeds of chickens I have if anyone has any ideas!
Thanks a bunch to all!
Krista

RE: Living my dream! :)

Hey Krista, I think you forgot the link! Try that again.

Where did you get your chicks? Couldn't they tell you what kind they were? Looking at the pictures I can't really say, other that that they are not all one kind. They could be mixed breed. One looks like it has Dominque or Barred Rock blood. Clementine has Polish blood. Madeline might be a Cochin. One of the chicks, with the brown "chipmunk markings" is a black breasted red, but of what breed, I can't tell. And, of course, Tommy is a turkey. Unless clearly stated, you may have straight run birds, meaning that roughly half could turn out to be cockerels.

By the way, that's a really neat chicken house!

Here, I'll get the link for pictures into this post so one can just click on it.

Congrats on the homeschooling. We home schooled all three of our children for all but two years. All three are now honors students. The oldest graduated with honors, is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and is almost halfway through school to be come a veterinarian. All three of our children have commented on how their education has given them an edge in the university.
