seriously ... you can get a 50# bag of 12-12-12, 15 cubed or 19 cubed for about 9 bucks... and cover about 1500 plants twice during the summer....

or better yet.. skip the fert.. and invest in mulch and let your own worms take care of the process ...

i just don't 'buy' all these reinventions of the wheel ... when ma nature can basically fend for herself ...

look at it this way ... does the money go into more hosta.. or something else... i obviously ALWAYS voted for more hosta.. lol

I'm sorry! I reread my original post - I wasn't very clear at all. My intention was to bring attention to the company itself...I thought the company was cool in that they used recycled "trash" for their packaging and their seemingly ecologically friendly policies...I agree that fertilizer is fertilizer is fertilizer. But, if I were to use fertilizer (which I'm pretty haphazard about by the way) I would probably tend to go with this company as opposed to some of the other established big brand names. What can I say? I'm naive and a sucker for a good story!

I don't put any thing on my hosta but slug repellent, the good kind and mulch every couple of years.

Last summer I cleaned out the huge compost bin and two smaller bins and put 2 to 3 inches of composted soil over all the hosta in two bed. I sived all the larger particles out and put them back to break down some more. That's as close as I come to fertilizing.

I'm fortunate that the hosta keep weeds from growing when they mature. Just the smaller hosta in the front of my beds need upkeep. I may have to mulch again this year if I have more weeds than normal, time will tell.
