Mctavish,these are great. Just what we need this time of year. My husband would love your house and the location. He's into views big-time.
Those are checkered lily or Fritillaria meleagris. They also come in a white on white check. Like daffodils,up in spring,wait for foliage to die etc. Says zone 4-8 in the book I'm looking at(cause I didn't know how to spell it), but here(zone 4) I had some trouble getting them going. They are unique and well worth planting. Make sure you put them close so you won't miss them.

Yardmom, Von1 is right about that little bulb. The funny thing is I don't remember even planting it. Thanks for the name Von1, I would have had to look it up because I certainly couldn't have spelled it! I saw on the 1st page of these spring pictures that you thought I was a male, that's funny because until this post, I thought you were too. The original McTavish was female and a beautiful cat.

These photos are just wonderful. If I had some salad dressing, I could eat those hosta right off of the screen! lol
