When to transplant Heuchera?

I have about 10 to 15 different kinds of 'unknown coral bells" in my hosta beds that are overgrown by my hostas and are not visible now. Is spring the best time to transplant them? I sure hope so as I really don't want to take the chance of loosing them.

Some where on the forum I read that someone had planned to 'cut back' their H's. Could someone please find out how they did over this past summer. Some of mine are really getting 'leggy' and I want to know if it made a difference.

Connie - In Tracy DiSabato-Aust's book - The Well-Tended Perennial Garden she says dividing is often needed every 3 years in spring. My notes say spring or fall for dividing. Heuchera can also suffer from frost heave even when established, which to me reinforces spring.

Finally an answer! Thank you Paul!

I was going to muddle through and move them in the spring. Now that my hostas are mature I find that all the plants I planted for space filling are very crowded so I really need to move a lot of stuff, even hostas.
