To brick or not to brick

I couldn't resist, I just bought/recevied some late season daylilies through the mail, and popped them into the ground over the weekend. These were shipped bare root, healthy single fan divisions. Someone recommended that I place bricks around the plants to hold them in the ground to stem off the freeze/thaw heave problem. Supposedly the weight of the brick alleviates some of the heave.

I was wondering if anyone had ever tried this with any of their plants, whether it hosta, daylily, etc. Thought it innovative, but thought I'd ask you all first. I might even put a few around some of my late hosta purchases if you think it has merit.

Anyone?
