We have the traditional turkey/dressing/mashed/gravy/sweet potatoes. This year we are leaving off the appetizers. And this is the first year in 15 years I won't be doing the cooking for the 61 people in my family. My mom sold her farm last year. The house had 2 kitchens so it was pretty easy to pull it off. I'm probably the only person who lost weight on Thanksgiving - running up and down a flight of stairs between the 2 kitchens. And while my mother now has a spacious townhome, big enough to accomodate everyone, we will only be doing one of the turkeys there. Everyone is bringing an assigned dish. My assignment is the mashed potatoes.

The husband is planning on making me Jennio Turkey Roast and mashed potatoes. I think I have a pumpkin pie in the freezer. I'll be all hopped on vicodin from my surgery by then I won't know the difference! Too bad, because it is supposed to be really warm here tomorrow and Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope yours was blessed. DH talked me into going out to a buffet, which I wasn't too wild about. For me, Thanksgiving had always been a family day and my extended family is large, happy, bustling and noisy and I love it all. This year, we had only my son joining the two of us therefore the buffet. At the last minute, daughter-in-law to be (as of a week from this coming Saturday) unexpectedly had the day off and came along. Turned out the four of us had a lovely dinner with traditional holiday fare. Not too big of a selection but absolutely delicious. Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, corn, a delicious sweet potato dish, and cranberry sauce, followed by a selection of chocolate mousse and pumpkin, apple, or pecan pie! Very nice :-)
