Halcyon with pink & blue forget-me-nots.

The picture doesn't do it justice--too much sun, but it is a gorgeous combination.

Very inspiring. So many of mine have a ways to go to look like those shown.

I spoke to Faye (Almost Hooked) yesterday in Tucson. She and her hubby are enjoying the 'non-snow'. Wimps! She gave me permission to share some pictures of her plants on the Alphabet threads. I am continually amazed at how huge they are for fist or second year plants. I hope you enjoy them. For the 'H' here is High Noon. It's so great there are 2 pictures of it. She better watch it or in may migrate to my garden when she's not looking.

    And a month later flowering

Now a few of mine. It's odd that nearly all of them are green.

Only 1 H picture for me. First year 'Hollywood Lights'.

I agree with you, ilovetogrow. I have 'Hudson Bay' and I think it's an outstanding hosta. A good replacement for 'Eskimo Pie', which I couldn't get to grow here.

Not a great pic but does this look like Hudson Bay? I got some labels mixed and am not 100% sure.

Looks like a Hudson Bay, Old Dirt. There are better-qualified people than me here, but I suppose it could possibly be Dream Weaver or Dream Queen? Just guessing.

Thanks Don B, I am going to stick with Hudson Bay. I have a Dream Queen and wonder the difference of the Dream Weaver. Guess I'll have to get one and compare side by side. Now I know what ya'll talk about with enabling...

Hot Green Chilies, a sport of Guacamole from Ran Lydell's gardens. Growing it in full sun.

Holy Mole', another Guacamole sport. I didn't realize how nice this one has gotten since the only way I can see it is from 8 feet up on the deck!

Two Halcyons at my front door in 2012. Yes, they were transplanted in spring of 2013 before they completely blocked my walkway.

Halcyon truly thrives here. The plant on the right was over 40" wide and hardly blinked when transplanted. The one on the left is shown in its new home in my post above.

Wow, Harry, those are big 'Halcyon'! Nice work, sir.

Hi Gesila, I'm loving 'Hot Green Chilies', never seen one with my own eyes. Do you consider it to have any differences to, say, 'Avocado' or 'Holy Mole', or is it extremely similar to those plants, in your opinion?

    Thanks,
    Don B.

Don, I'm not sure how much Hot Green Chilies varies from Avocado, I don't seem much difference when I compare my HGC to Avocado except I think HGC has thicker leaves. I grow all three of them in the sun.

I purchased HCG for pure sentiment. I bought HGC directly from Ran Lydell when I visited him in 2012. (I believe I bought one of each of his introductions that were original stock.) I have my HGC on the corner of a bed that I walk by each time I go in the back yard. It reminds me of a wonderful vacation and and a fascinating visit with Ran.

Yes, Gesila, I buy plants for more than their looks as well. It does not matter to me if there is another similar look....the important thing is the feeling I get walking through my garden and thinking about them.

Besides, one may be fertile, the other one not. Or the toughness of the leaf deters slugs. You will never know unless you grow both. :)
