    H. 'Mojito' (I'm going to stop labelling my photos - spelling errors can't be corrected!)

    H. 'Midlife Crisis - Tummy Tuck' (sport of Orange Marmalade)

and another H. montana 'Aureomarginata' whose mission in life is to look like squirejohn's hosta (one of my all time favourite photos on this forum, and often on my desktop.)

    MARQUETTE PARK (year 1)

Very nice photos and plants. You all impress me with your ability to grow Montana Aureo. I've had mine since 1999. That's 14 years if I'm counting right. Since then I've bought 2 others both of which have died. This original one is growing a little and now has 2 or 3 eyes that are normal looking in size and color but is not exactly leaping.

The flowers on Marquette Park are beautiful. Is that a true color?

I also love the Marrakech which I have and looks nothing like that. Maybe mine should move....

    On to some m's

Fifth year in the garden. Finally starting to grow.

Thank's to Pieter. Where are you Pieter?

Seventh year in the garden. Another I wonder if it will ever actually grow.

Yes McT, true colour on the Marquette Park flowers (no computer-assisted colour adjustment). They were the darkest purple I've seen yet on a hosta. And they gave me nice plump pods too. I harvested seed in October, and for the first time ever I'm trying to propigate. On another thread, and I can't recall from whom, I took someone's advice and placed the seeds between damp paper towels and keeping them warm (heating from below) to see if they pop. The seeds had a little bump on one end just like good seeds should. If they do sprout then I'll pot them up in proper seedling mix. So far, nothing - and it's been about a month. Maybe the seeds are just not viable and I was expecting a little too much. I'll keep the seeds another few weeks just in case.

Well, I took one look at your Marquette Park photo, and it went straight to my wish list. I also have lancifolia added, and between the two, blooms should be like a field of lavender in France! The two shades of color would be awesome.

And now, I decided that even though my hosta are immature, it could be valuable to have a photo record of what a young one looks like. Merle's Marilyn Monroe is the fully mature speciman, whereas mine will be the pre-teenie version perhaps. That is my consolation as I dare to enter my young plants and myself having no background in hosta culture except what I've gleaned from this year on the forum.

    Marilyn Monroe

Marquis...developed by Savory and purchased there too

Masquerade is one I've loved from the start, and guess I bought 10 of them so far, from different sources, and I just plain have trouble with it. This is the end for me:

    Maui Buttercups

    Maya Tritone

Minuteman with pal Patriot to the rear

Miss Saigon has Sweet Innocence tucked behind her

Mojito got here just before Labor Day. It came from Nancy & Bob Solberg at Green Hill Nursery in N.C.

    Moonlight Sonata

    Morning Light

    Morning Star

Munchkin is, I think, the green equivalent of Masquerade
and that is Tot Tot on the right

    My Friend Nancy

And that's all folks. Of course, I have on order for March delivery Major Tom. Cannot wait.

Alright, everybody stop right there and stand still a second. I think the EARTH JUST MOVED. It started with Maekewa up there in Paul's post, and I cannot figure something out.

Those hosta are GORGEOUS! YOUNG hosta looking like real race horses, thoroughbred stock. And part of my shock was that

I was SEEING THE REAL PHOTO in my GardenWeb email because I subscribed to the thread!

Has this happened before today for anyone? Or am I just now able to see the photos directly in the email, without clicking through to the website thread....which always dumped me at the start of a thread and not the specific post sent to me....

I must say, that is a real convenience, I hate to scroll! And looking right there on my email screen, I was confronted with all those beautiful Minnesotta named and grown hosta.

Great to have it happen on GardenWeb. Bravo!

My lists are growing. H. montana 'Aureomarginata' is the hosta that rekindled my interest in hostas. I planted it in 2007 under a spruce tree with a south western exposure and it's been a steady grower all that time. I don't expect it to grow to full potential because of the tree roots. It hasn't been bothered by pests except for the occasional bird droppings and tree sap.

In its present location by mid-summer H. montana 'On Stage' gets torn by westerly winds, so I'm moving it near H. montana 'Aureomarginata' next spring. It should do better in that spot.

According to Zilis, in Japan H. monatana 'On Stage' goes by montana 'Choko Nishiki'. They are supposed to be identical. Wade and Gatton sells MCN for $20 whereas MOS costs $14. So what's in a name?

Don-in-C, my Mojito came from Nancy and Bob Solberg at Green Hill Nursery in Franklinton NC. It is a fragrant guy. I count myself lucky for scoring such a fine specimen so late in the season. I'm always pleased to see plenty of eyes and big leaves and scapes to boot.

Thank you irawon :-) Marilyn Monroe's leaves were wrinkled from shipping, but otherwise quite healthy, having a great root system. (thanks Hallson Gardens!) Also, so pleased that it kept the buds then flowered.

I've been enjoying watching the alphabet progress along with all the terrific photos.

My Friend Nancy has been moved a couple times, finally found a place she seems happy. MFN is in the front, Olive Bailey Langdon behind.

    Paul,

I bought Maekwan last year. Poor plant was in in dry sandy soil and looked terrible. Hoping it comes back looking like yours.

Hostanista, I don't believe the plant in your picture is actually 'Marquette Park'. Take a look on the Hosta Library and the AHS registration. 'Marquette Park' is described as medium green leaf colour with a bright gold margin.
