new here-red spot question

Hi all! I searched all past posts and could not find the answer to my q so thought I would post it. First of all I don't have a picture, and I looked on the hosta library and couldn't find it either.

Last year I noticed circular red spots on several hostas. Is it some kind of rust? It's not leaf burn I know for sure. They were all over the leaves. Please tell me it's not a deadly disease! I removed all the bad leaves and was hoping they would be fine this year.

Anybody have an idea?

Probably a fungal infection of some type. Did it look similar to the picture in the link below?

Also could be physical damage from falling twigs or from piercing/sucking insects.

Either way, nothing real serious.

Thank you Josh. It sounds like it. Mine are in a shade house too. Also it had rained all week when I had started to notice it. I will have to subscibe to that site and read the rest. I was so scared it would wipe out all my hostas for good. I spent to much to loose them all!:)I kept thinking viruses. You've made me fill a lot better!

Your right Janice I haven't posted on here before. Thanks for the nice welcome. I'm sure I'll find a lot of info I'm looking for.

Hiddengarden, I had what sounds to be the same problem with a couple of hosta last year. We had a very wet May to June, so I assumed it was related to the weather.

Both links worked for me. I just don't want to give them $45.00/year to read the rest of the article on it. :) Call me cheap, but that there is hosta monies!

Josh, Thanks for asking re the link. It is still not working for me, but not to worry as I right clicked it to get the properties and thus address and was able to find your article. I'm not sure that Botyris is the fungus I saw in my yard, but I am fairly certain that it was a fungal infection due to our wet, not to mention dark weather last year. Thanks for posting. M-A
