Hosta U 2012

Coffee. Garden. Coffee. Does a good morning need anything else? ~Betsy Caas Garmon

The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.
~Dorothy Frances Gurney, "Garden Thoughts"

Wow! "U" is a REALLY uninspiring letter in my garden!

    undulata (aureomarginata?)

    a different undulata (mediopicta??)

    a smaller undulata (mediopicta???) !

    and finally...wait for it...
    undulata aureomarginata, I think.

A new one in my garden. I love the parent Rising Sun which is very bright and shiny. I have high hopes for this one. It's not a great picture but there are so few U's.

Undulata Erromena This plain green hosta is thriving on a "medium" of landscape fabric, cinder block and creosoted bridge plank. It makes for great erosion control under roof eaves.

Here they are performing erosion control and making hummingbirds happy.

    H. 'Undulata Yadda-Yadda'

Mr. Rawson, will you please develop some more introductions and name them with words that start with 'U'?
    We don't have enough.

p.s. By tomorrow night would be great. Thanks.

    UNDULATA MEDIO VARIEGATA (I think?)

HL doesn't have a 'medio variegata' but that is clearly what the tag says! Is it the same as mediopicta? or 'univitata? And then there is just plain 'undulata'.I don't think I can tell those four apart. Very confusing to me.

Okay, I have a couple of these. Love the way Hostanista's front yard has NO GRASS TO MOW--any that remains can be done with a pair of embroidery scissors.

    Unforgettable July 2012

Unforgettable in early Oct, it lasted well into Nov. Tough!

    Ultramarine in May

Ultramarine in Aug with a flush of new leaves

Undulata albomarginata--or so I thought, as it was the one which has been in DH's Massachusetts garden for 40 years

this green showed up while I was not paying attention, in July

but here it is, turning on me to a solid greenie?
    this is August

    Undulata univittata

I hope Don Rawson also comes out with some new hosta named in the "U" letter. Such as Underworld (a dark striped) or Ululate (a rippled edger)... or Upperclass just for starters....Utah Beach?

Good point Moccasinlanding, there are a lot of possibilities with U. Like Under the Sea for a deep blue, maybe the offspring of one of Mildred Seaver's plants. Or maybe Undecided for one of those streaked plants that can't make up its mind. Hmm. I could have some fun making up hosta names

"Unbelievable" would be an " Ultimate Luxury" for another
