Harvesting Seeds Now??

Posted by jennaj_z4mn (My Page) on Mon, Feb 8, 10 at 11:16
So I am sitting here in the middle of yet another MN snowstorm dreaming of hostas. And I had an idea...if I tredged through the snow and cut off some open pods...could I potentially bring the seeds inside and germinate them sucessfully...or do I just have to wait until next fall? Between snow and sick kids...I am going CRAZY!!! Thanks--Jenna

If there are any seeds left in the open pods, give it a try. Ideally, you should have harvested the seeds in the fall just before they popped. Pam |

They should germinate - I don't see why they wouldn't.

I tried it January 2009 with xmas tree gala and they germinated.Germination will take 3-6 weeks so be patient.Phil

Thanks everyone. I am really looking forward to get them growing. This has been one of the snowiest (is that a word?) winters I can remember--and its getting really old, really fast!!
