| Can some recommend a good mail order source for hosta?
There used to be a couple of nice nurseries around here but the 2 "farms" that are here have the usual stuff and nothing interesting.
I'd be looking for small and mid-sized varieties.
Klehm songsparrow nursery has some neat looking little ones with unique foliage.

| Of all the places I've ordered online, I've been happiest with Northern Grown Perennials and Avalon Acres. They both have a really good selection and price - and you receive plants with huge root systems. NGP hasn't updated their website for 2010 yet, and I'm not sure about Avalon Acres' website status. I really like Avalon Acres www.aahostas.com They keep up with the newer and older varieties at a great price. All of the plants I have received are healthy with a huge root system. It looks like they are updating their plants for the 2010 season because I see some new intros. Naylors is also good for new intros. |

| I bought several hostas at http://www.landofthegiantshostafarm.com/ with good success. But I also like going to the local nurseries of my area which have recently introduced hostas, some with 3-4 eyes, healthy, leafed out in gallon pots for $18-23, no shipping expense. Only 2 1/2 more months until my hostas are coming up! |

| White Oak sends bareroots with large root systems. Hilltop Farm sends plants in pots with lots of eyes. The plants in my garden from these two vendors are the ones that have really taken off. Deanna |

HostasDirect is local to me and while they have unusual varieties, they are VERY VERY small.... like 2 year old TC's. Too small for my taste. And if you order divisions, they are usually 1 eye. A guy from Klehms spoke at my local hosta society this weekend. He gave us beautiful catalogs, but I did not think the prices were on par with others. Savory's also has lots of unusual varieties, but they are not cheap. I will be ordering from Hallson's and a couple other places this year, but a majority of my spending will be done at the convention. |

| Here in the NW, I am able to personally visit Sebright Hosta Gardens in Brooks, OR, and buy plants in 1 gal pots that have lush roots, and all have thrived from the first day. Their new catalog is online with great photos and descriptions. I have watched the owners pack mail orders, even one to Russia, while visiting the nursery, and was really impressed with both the care and attention to shipping and the quality of the plants. Perhaps because the two owners are totally hands on. And their display gardens are stunning. |

EFlowerGarden.com, can`t beat the price AND quality and service. Not a large variety currently, but a top notch company. I just placed my first Hosta order of the year with them. It appears they have changed to co-op ordering only this year. I`m looking forward to seeing more varieties later in the spring, hopefully. If cost is a consideration, here`s the place to expand your collection. So far, my orders from them have been perfection. |

| I have never, ever been dissapointed with the size of the hostas at hallsons nursery. I whole heartedly recommend them. Check out the ratings at garden watchdog to see how they and other nurseries stand up. |

| Good to know, Jill. I only ordered from them initially due to their excellent reputation on the Garden Watchdog. I`ve had no issues but...wanna bet I`ll be closely inspecting leaves this spring just in case? lol |

| New Hampshire Hosta, Rob's Lakeside Hosta and Casita Azul(http://www.ilovehostas.net/index.html) I've gotten plants from all three and they are all great to deal with decent size and decent price. They are all reputable too. NH Hosta has a great variety, they have even more at their greenhouse than their website(if you are close enough to check it out) they also have nice gardens, that is where I saw Olive branch and now it is at the top of my list. They also have a lot of smaller ones there. Does Rob have a website? I knew he was trying to get one started but is it up and running? But he has a lot and they are really nice plants. |
