cut worm..

and the middle.. when the leaf was still rolled up ..

scratch around in the first inch of soil.. and see if you can find it ... google an image ...

if the next flush of leaves.. is not damaged.. you know its already gone ..

also.. go out at night .. and see if you find anything ????

I found one next to a plant. There are 2 more plants next to the pictured out with much smaller damage. I looked around and did not find any more worms. So is it possible I did not find the other ones or single worm I found did it?

Or slugs? You have to check for them at night though.

They're only caterpillars for about 2 weeks. After that, they make a cocoon and become a moth. So, that may be the only one or that might be the only one left.

The damage left by slugs is usually smaller than that left by cut worms. By that, I mean smaller holes and they are usually more random.

I've also had army worms, but they are just another caterpillar and the damage is similar to that shown in the photo.
