Lots of earthworms in my soil is a harbinger of...?

I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that if I encounter lots of earthworms every time I dig a hole to plant something in my garden, the topsoil, peat moss, and Epoma Plant-tone I added when I dug the garden out from weeds, contractor fill junk and rocks is nice and rich for the worms. Meaning it's good for what I plant there as well. There certainly were NOT this many worms when I originally dug out the gardens.

Any other thoughts on the many earthworms I now encounter?
