Maybe more will show up this year near the same spot. You folks with hosta in the ground have an opportunity to extend your hosta collections that makes me envious.

As my DH clears old azalea and briars from our street beds, I'm beginning to see HOSTA put in the ground beneath the palms and bananas. I want random seedlings too! ..... :)

Hey Moc.... let your flower scapes go to seed. After the seed pods have turned brown, cut them off and scatter the seeds around. You'll probably get some seedlings that way.

hi all ....

I planted some hosta gold standard seedlings several weeks ago- maybe a month at the most. I am in south florida. This is what I am seeing and I dont know if it is a seedling of the hosta or something else. I kept it outside while it was sprouting. I'm thinking it could be a wind blown impatient. Not sure if this is my hosta or not - anyone???

those are not hosta...

i have no clue if they are impatiens ....

hosta seed takes 90 days to ripen on the stalk .. after the flower blooms and is fertilized... your words make it sound ... like you tried fresh.. this season seeds... and i dont know how that could be ...

if you want to toy with seed growing.. there are various sources for mail order seeds.. many of us.. do it in winter... under lights ..

also.. hosta have a requisite cold dormancy.. which they will not get in most of FL ... so growing some from seed as annuals.. would be a great way to dabble with them.. with the understanding that they would not be long lived ...
