Best option for planting in very sandy shade

I thought I posted this message a few days ago but now I can't find it....I guess I never submitted it. I want to move a few hosta from my garden to my campsite, It is lightly wooded and sandy (about 10 miles from the beach). Would it be better if I put them in pots and buried them in the ground or would they do okay in sandy soil? I suppose I could do some amending but I'm afraid that anything I add would wash away quickly. Thanks for any advice.
