i dont know what an 8 inch pot is??? ... they should be in min one gallon pots ... and then up a size each time ...

They contractors never fixed or even addressed the initial problem (I have some septic alarm in my house that was on months prior to the flood). they ignored this. I don't think it's the plumbers fault but my landlord is not allowing other repairs to be done. I was going to fill the area in with river rocks because we have them all over, but I still have a small hope that some hostas may pop up.

haha i don't know how many gallons the 8 inch pot is, but I do have a bunch of nursery pots and it looks about the same as a 1gallon nursery pot, so ill move them into the nursery pots.

Will black nursery pots not get too hot?

Black nursery pots should be okay to use so long as they aren't in direct sun for too many hours each day. I'm quite a bit farther north than you are but I've over wintered 50 or more perennials, including hosta, in black plastic nursery pots (gallon size or larger) for a number of years. Mine are set on my east-west facing breezeway where they're sheltered from midday sun.

It might be best to go up a couple of pot sizes so you aren't repotting them again this time next year. No pot is too large but many can easily be too small.
