My Hosta really helped ME today...

I went down to my Moms to work today .. I knew the last in a long line of storms had brought down a branch... Well that branch was the size of a 30 foot tree.. It came off a MONSTER of a tree. I cut it up with a chainsaw and hauled it to the now giant burn pile on the bush hog cutter behind the John Deere Tractor.

Looked at the bush hog and the giant steel bracing that holds the large pivot wheel had broke a 3 inch weld.. battled the bent metal back together and did a decent weld on it, fixed ...

My mom tells me the sewer is plugged again, we have spent thousands on it the last couple years ... I had to go up on the roof and with a long flat wire ram it clear through the air vent. This old house doesn't really have an EASY way to clear it out . Finally after a half hour, got it fixed...

Went into the basement cleaned up the mess ...

The pond (50 foot across) that I have been working in all spring in waste deep water drained again. it has a tough spot to fix where the overflow goes thru the dam. still broke

Then as I mowed a HUGE storm came up west of my moms, You can see nearly 15-20 miles from my Moms place, and I could tell where I live is was getting hammered, the radio was saying 70 mph winds...

Well the day nearly broke me mentally and physically, Missing my ole Pop didn't help.

When I finally got home the Hosta were fine, covered with big drops of water, I just walked slowly by them for about half an hour. It really did help me ... there is no doubt gardens are therapeutic ....

So sorry for your troubles! Isn't it amazing how natural beauty soothes the soul.

My dad always used to say that God didn't have to make our world beautiful, he just did because he loves us. Yay for Hosta therapy!

Bless you for looking after your Mom. I know the feeling, missing your Pop, remembering being a kid, shadowing him and learning.

Time is precious. I'm grateful for each day spent with my Mom. I know the days are fleeting, she turned 92 in January.

And bless that garden of hosta and the ability to appreciate life and when things go right.

Thank you for that post.If I just look out the window at the gardens and planting we have done in the 6 years we have lived here, it makes me happy. But the best is just walking through the yard and taking a really good look at each and every plant. I am always accompanied by my gardening assistant and shadow, Nellie. Dogs and gardens, best things to soothe the spirit,

Yes, gardens and hosta are very healing, especially after a rain, aren't they?

Your mom is lucky to have you and I hear you about missing your dad. Never easy.

Thank goodness we have our gardens!

You are so right. Gardens are therapeutic. I can feel like the weight of the world is on my shoulders, step into my garden and come out wondering what all the fuss was about. . .It made this old lady's heart smile that your mom had such a caring son. . .lol

Right on! Sometimes, even just thinking about hostas helps. We've had a number of catastrophes happen to our family, and late at night when I'm trying to get to sleep, if I ever go to those "dark" places in my head, I always re-direct my thoughts to thinking about hostas. Wavy edges, water color painted leaves, cute little ones, majestic big strong ones, delicate ones, blue ones, green ones, yellow ones, etc. etc. etc. It works!

Leafwatcher, very well said....trials and tribulations abound, but there is the peacefulness of a garden at the end of the road. YOUR garden.
