I have had luck using pots or buckets turned upside down over smaller plants and I have also constructed tents over larger plants using lawn chairs or other objects that are taller than the plant, by placing them around the perimeter of the plant and then covering with an extra blanket from the house. I then cover that with a plastic tarp to keep the blanket dry and weight down the edges with rocks.

This will provide a few degrees protection.
