blues will stay bluer in the shade, dappled is okay.

They [blues] get too much sun, it tends to melt the blue, is the best way I can phrase it. I read something somewhere sometime about the blue coating, but IBD if I can remember more that that or the source.

Love Pat has been a slow grower for me, does not get huge, but is pleasant.

In the blues, the sleep, creep, leap stage tends to take at least five years, sometimes longer.

Here is my Love Pat from last year, behind the Japanese ferns. It is in full shade, only getting direct sun in the early evening. I like blues in as close to full shade as possible- they may not grow the best there, or the fastest, but at least the wax doesn't melt off as easily

The thing about hosta photography, is that lighting and time of day and year are big factors, as well as coloring of neighboring plants. I looked at the HL page and none of those seem inaccurate to me, although they all all a bit different. I would say my Love Pat, pictured in early July, most resembles the color in the last HL pic. It is definitely a blue hosta, in ideal conditions.

I certainly do not think it's all that blue. Certainly nothing like Halcyon.

Love Pat is one of the most blue plants in my garden. It retains its blue color longer than any other blue I have. I have mine in morning sun and afternoon shade.

Nice pics, coll and Steve. I grow this hosta as well and mine keeps the blue color well. It's growing in mostly shade with some dappled light under a giant oak tree. The blues look that way because of a waxy coating. If they are in too much sun the wax can melt off. In fact, even an overhead sprinkler can eventually wear the waxy coating away for the season.

Than you, guys! I will try it, though my location is only partial shade.
