Hosta Hit Parade

User

Let me tell you about an idea.....

First, there is a hosta named the same thing as a song, musical group, or a classical music work.... Moonlight Sonata comes to mind there. Or Sweet Home Chicago.

For starters.....because there IS a post about it right now.

Can you post here all the hosta you have which have songs/music by the same name? And maybe when such a hosta is featured in a thread, and you know who recorded a song, lay the link to it somewhere in its thread?

You can find many of the hosta/song pairs in Don Rawson's Lists. I give the link below.

Here is a link that might be useful: Don Rawson's Hosta Lists..look for MUSIC

I never realized I had this many hostas based on songs...

    Dance with me
I want to be your partner
    Can't you see
    The music is just starting
    Night is calling
    And I am falling
    Dance with me

I saw her walkin' on down the line
You know I saw her for the very first time
A pretty little girl standin' all alone
"Hey pretty baby, can I take you home?"
I never saw her, never really saw her

I love the second verse to Cherish .... a lot of people lose Cherish after one season.....

Perish is the word that more than applies
To the hope in my heart each time I realize
That I am not gonna be the one to share your dreams
That I am not gonna be the one to share your schemes
That I am not gonna be the one to share what
Seems to be the life that you could
Cherish as much as I do yours

How about a little Billy Joel:

    Lyrics:
She cuts you once, she cuts you twice
    But still you believe
The wound is so fresh you can taste the blood
But you don't have strength to leave
You've been bought, you've been sold
You've been locked outside the door
    But you stand there pleadin',
    With your insides bleedin',
'Cause you deep down want some more
When she says she wants forgiveness
    It's such a clever masquerade
She's so good with her stiletto
You don't even see the blade
    You don't see the blade

    You guys are TOO COOL.....
    Too sexy for your genes....
    ...excuse me....Jeans?

So I think we've always had a latent, buried association with the songs when we are attracted to a particular hosta. It might be our hosta become the symbols we keep for happy times, they are as good as the music, as good as the occasions/events, they bring to mind.

This is a fun thread though I have to admit that I'm not a huge music fan. There are probably more types of music that I don't like than that I do. I have heard of most of the songs mentioned but not Yellow River (plant of mine shown above). That strikes me as a very weird name for a song!

Oh my!!! I have been through this thread twice already! The music is great, it brought back such wonderful memories. When our girls were in High School, we always had a houseful of teenagers! The music and the kids were great fun..Thanks for the Memories! ( Shades of Bob Hope! An earlier era, but still fun music!)

Rosie, is there a significance to the numbers after your name?
742001 sound like July 4 2001 to me. An anniversary is coming up I bet, a birthday for a baby or grandchild, the date you bought your home......or planted your first hosta?

    Anyway, about the link thingy.
Below this area where you type your post are a couple more boxes labeled
    OPTIONAL LINK URL:
    (copy/paste the URL address here)
    NAME OF THE LINK:
(and this is where you type in what you wish it to say)
    Then PREVIEW....
    Then POST MESSAGE....

I'd do it with Midnight At The Oasis, only my browser is hanging up tonight. Sorry. Really like that song! :)

Irawon, how neat! But of course you know that many of Don Rawson's lists of hosta names are about music, movies, entertainment, etc. I'll put the link below for others who may wish to browse all the lists that Don keeps.

And if you wish to set up a "theme" garden (Theresa has her Angel Garden) there are lists of zillions of themes. When the name is on your hosta list and on his song list, that sounds like a theme of your very own.
