What's around your Empress Wu?

For those of you growing Empress Wu, do you plant annuals while waiting for her to grow? I was thinking of placing her amidst some plain old greenies and Albos so that I could easily dig those up without any remorse as she gets larger. (I will probably have to stay on top of them because they do grow pretty vigorously.) Is this a terrible idea? Will the roots get tangled up or something? Should I just stick to annuals or some other kinds of companion plants like ferns?

I have planted a couple of hosta seedlings and a couple of ligularias that can be moved.

She did have a circle of Albos around her (she has her own raised bed in the woods garden) until the deer and the voles ate most of them. I need to divide and transplant what's left of the rest of them so she has her pretty petticoat again. The raised bed is a circle about 9' across and the albos are planted around the edge so she has plenty of room to grow. I never want to have to transplant her. This is only her 3rd year so she has a long time to grow yet.
