Making labels

I've been making my own labels for quite a while, but I think I've finally got the best design. Just copied the ones you have to pay the bucks for (that I would rather be spending on hostas!) that I have to replace as the holes have torn out. I can also scrub them off easily with a steel wool pad and re-write names on them.

Three pictures here, but can't post them all at once. They are made with aluminum flashing and heavy wire, I think might be 4 ga. I use a non-fade nursery marker, paint pen or grease pencil to write on them with but fancy labels could be made if you have a label maker.

You need flashing, heavy shears to cut it, a sharpie marker, a template to mark the holes--I used an old label--a drill with a bit that will make a hole big enough for the wire to slip through, and a pair of alligator-nose needle nose pliers. My DH drilled a dozen at once with his drill press but I just do one at a time.

You can get the flashing and wire at any home improvement store.
