You probably won't get an answer without a photo.

I'm not a great one to ID hosta, but I haven't a clue what you mean by "fat stemmed" hosta. As far as I know, some have fat stems and some have think stems. I never would categorize them in my brain by fat or thin stems.

That's just me, though. Maybe other people would.

If you change your initial post in any way when in the PREVIEW window you have to choose your picture again in the box below. Check to see that your picture is still chosen (Choose file) before hitting the submit button. Choose file will show a numbered item. Maybe that's your problem. I'm still caught off guard by this situation from time to time.

Edited to say: You found your problem during the time I was tyiping my message. I'm interested to know what the problem was but never mind if it was a PB problem because I don't post from PB.

I finally found this thread on page 4 or 5! I've been curious as to the identity of this cute little hosta, so I decided to get my books out and do some research as googling didn't get me anywhere. I asked for yellow hostas with decurrent petioles and got pictures of everything BUT.

I'm wondering if perhaps this may be a sport of another hosta?

This "fat" flat petiole is referred to as flat, as you mentioned as well as decurrent, where the leaf blade runs down/transitions down the sides of the petioles. Hostas with these types of petioles are: Hanky Panky, Crepe Soul, White Feather and Nancy, to name a few. If your friend looks these up, something might click for her.

I haven't yet browsed through the Field Guide by M. Zilis, but when I get a chance tomorrow (today, lol it's almost three a.m.) I'll see what I can find for you.

I'm wondering if Moccasin Landing might catch this thread. She loves golds and has approx. 500 hostas! She may just recognize it. :-)

I walked around in the back as usual this morning and it suddenly hit me that I have something similar which sported off Whirlwind last year. Here it is. See what you think of it. It is green and the smaller one is lightening up in the sun.

I didn't find anything further (than my previous suggestions) in the Field guide.

This pic shows the trio, sports and Whirlwind. I notice that the tips of the leaves on NOIDS are starting to twist as mother plant and the mid-width of some leaves is becoming more apparent also.

A close-up of petiole of my NOID. The vein count matches I think...I see 6?
