My best guess would be a young Wide Brim. Looks just like the ones I saw at Home Depot the other day. I bought one with atypical leaves because it looked different but the basic plant shape, color of the leaves looks the same.

And I would not be surprised to see it in a bargain bin.

I actually grow Wide Brim, and I don't think it ever looked like this (at least in my care).

The nursery lady said that her husband dug this up from somewhere on their property recently.

Scooter is a compelling guess. I looked it up and I read that it's related to Yellow Rim and Yellow Rim Splash. On Hallson's site YRS is described as "lance shaped, green with a creamy yellow margin, slightly undulating with some purplish-red spots on the base of the petioles."

Here are the petioles with those reddish spots:

I can't seem to find good descriptions differentiating 'Yellow Splash Rim' from 'Yellow Splash' and 'Scooter,' though.

Also, these seem to propagate by rhizomes. Are these relatively easy to dig up and give to friends?

Thanks so much for posting that photo. It does look pretty much the same. Does yours have red spots on its petioles?

Frankly, I can't really tell the difference between the photos of Scooter and the Yellow Splashes on the web.

Does your spread vigorously?

Don't know, as it has dwindled and may be gone. If I still have it I will check.
