To elaborate further, well draining media.
Don't use the fancy stuff like Miracle Grow Moisture Control because it retains too much water.

If you are going to buy a bag of mix, orchid media would work/drain well.

And another thing to note is do not use pots with trays for catching water under them or with built in trays.

The main thing is, you want good drainage so the hosta roots don't sit in soggy media.
