Pull up craigslist and type hosta in search...... if they list name look for undulata Albomarginata (white margined - pic below) or undulata with white center (there are a couple variations)....both are common and often shared since they grow well. Expect to pay anywhere from free to $5 for a decent sized clump.....if they are charging $5 for a pot with 2-3 divisions in it, wait for better.

Might find some where they are available if you dig.

White edged varieties generally will grow more vigorously than white centered ones. That said, there are some exceptions. You probably want Patriot or Minuteman to get a lot of white with some vigor. Here's minuteman.

I don't know where in Illinois you are but a great source of plants in Illinois is Hornbaker Gardens. Link below.

You can also always buy online. I think the Garden Watchdog top five is Hallsons, Made in the Shade Hostas, New Hampshire Hostas, Naylor Creek, and In the Country Garden and Gifts. Anyone of those would a source of healthy plants.

Just popping in to say that free Albomarginatas were my "gateway" to addiction! Wishing you much success and enjoyment growing them. (Actually, I probably don't have to wish you success because they will grow anywhere!)

If you're on facebook, put a post asking for people's hosta divisions.

"Anyone dividing hostas? If you're willing to share, I'd love to have a few of your green & white ones. I'm willing to help dig!"

I second Melissa's suggestions. These hostas listed here (Patriot, Albomarginatas, Minuteman....) are very commonly seen in IL neighborhoods. Where are you located in IL?

Another option is to find them at local Lowel's or Home Depot. They typically carry these varieties for good price. Some people worry about the virus from these big box stores though.
