Name for this new hosta?

I need a name for this hosta seedling. It emerges very bright chartreuse in the spring and stays all summer. Very rugose and good substance. Right now it is a medium-sized plant, but I do not know what the mature size will be. Can you suggest a name for it?

I know it's not necessary to keep the "sister" part of its parentage, but if you did...

And wanted to keep the "gold" part as well...

And then threw a Spanish flavor on it...

Hermana de Oro

(Yeah, OK, it's a stretch, but I like the way it sounds.)

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Being of European origin, I know how to roll my R's so I like the way it sounds too! :-)

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Atocha= there is one named Nuestra Senora de la Atocha already but I like the name...far reach for connecting it to Don
Golden Goose= already one named Rosedale Golden Goose
Crinkles=already used. Not such a tough sounding name.

Rhino Gold is a super recognizable name linked to Don if not to the heavy duty Rhino Hide.

Yellow Crocodile (we also need more "Y" in the alphabet)
Zulu Queen.....this is one I really like.
ZULU QUEEN ZULU QUEEN

She = this after the queen in Rider Haggard's book SHE. (or "She Who Must Be Obeyed") which is well known in England.
In fact, Rumpole of the Bailey TV show called his wife Hazel SHE Who Must Be Obeyed. And I have now (and had before) a coffee cup with that title on it. (First one my crew threw it overboard). The Queen's REAL name was AISHA.
Only problem, we don't need no more ....... SSSSSSSSS.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Ken, you are SO FUNNY! No, I think it looks just fine in my garden...

The name "Rhino Gold" is already used for the all-gold sport of Rhino Hide.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Eye of Newt (if looks kind warty to me)

Gold Cup

Love Hammered Gold as well.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Don, I am not that up to speed on all your hostas, but if you don't yet have a hosta with your name in its title, then I think, IMHO that it is high time you claim that honour...Rawson Gold sounds great! :-)

Jo

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Don - have you picked a name yet - or should we keep brainstorming?

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

I still like my earlier idea of Alligator Gold. (ahem!)

Kate : )

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

A slight spin on Kate's suggestion...how about Golden Gator? I also like Hammered Gold.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Hey, Golden Gator is cool!

Kate

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

How about "Leopard Gecko"? I have one just like this one:

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Is there a hosta named Rawhide? Didn't see one in the Hosta Library. That would be my vote. RAWHIDE. WW

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

I like Rawhide...in fact, I already have a hosta named Blue Rawhide.

Of the many excellent names mentioned, I really like Hammered Gold. But now I have to consult my dear wife to get her opinion...

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Ah yes, Don, a very wise man you, cher!

Same at my house.

If Mama ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy. :) Especially when it comes to naming things.

Cool name, Hammered Gold. Please put my name on the list for one from your first batch.

Esther, Leopard Gecko is a neat name. I bet somebody will scarf that name up, what with all the alligators and crocodiles and rhinos and zebras and mice running rampant.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Wait, you have an all-gold Rhino Hide sport?? Well, this is good news!

Don B.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

I will be glad when this thread disappears from the main page.. I keep wanting to make up new names, and they are getting progressively more ridiculous... every time I think of a new one its worse than the last.. and it still makes me laugh.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

LW, can any of them be WORSE than 'Golden Shower'? LOL

Pucker Up (Golden Pucker?)

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Golden Jubilee has a classy vibe.
Gold Fever is a well known expression, easy to remember.

Sunny Side Up is already taken by Tony Avent. I have the hosta, new this year.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Don B,
I think you might have me there ! I did not see Golden Shower on the list hahahahahah.

don: i think you need to start a new thread with your latest names. you are still getting new ones, and folks are not weighing in on your list.

but do post the pix of the hosta again.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

I 'd say Pucker Up--if you aren't going for my earlier suggestion of Gator Gold. : )

Golden Jewel
Golden Jubilee

Golden Sunshine

==>>> listen oh master of lists.. dont you think the 6 or 7 hundred named hosta.. with gold or golden in the first part of the name is enough???

you can do much better than any of these ...

dazzler is a benedict word...

i swear there is a medal plant.. medal of honor ..

jewel ... already one gold that i hate with that name.. ruined enough JOTNiles for me

isnt golden sunshine a historical name for a yellow sieboldiana/tokuda???

june fever.. so dont go there ...

how about crinkly old bat turd ... [darn GW spell check.. lol]

it reminds me of indiana bobs crinkly thing way back when.. but i am blanking on it .... yankee doodle dandy ... but that one was streaked... he tried giving me a piece.. it went yellow.. then passed away ... pisser ... see link ... i thought the yellow version was something to do with city of angels.. but i dont find that in the library ....

you dont know its heritage at all???? for the pun game????

ya know.. it looks like a slime mold...

ok... time to go back outdoors ...

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Ken,
Indiana Bob hosta was Celebration of Angels.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Ahh, I love it when Ken is groovin.
Stream of consciousness literature drops like melted buttah from the sweat on his martini glass. Cheers, pal. I'm toasting you with my rum and Coke with a twist of lime, known "back in the day" as a CUBA LIBRE.....and that is no BOOK "libre" but the real thing. Poor Free Cuba, so many dreams gone, such a paradise but without a single hosta.

Celebration of Angels is a real halo above the gold hosta. An aura.

But Gold Fever still is simple, straight-forward, sliding easily between all the hoo-hah names and NAILING IT.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

ok....

xanthic fever...

ken.... go look up xanthic...

.....

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Jeesh, I missed all the fun here today...

Of the ones on your list, Don, I liked the ones near the end:

Lemon Crush
Lemon Pucker
Lime Crush
Limeade
Pucker Up
Sour Apple Pucker
Streets of Gold
Sunny Side Up

My favorite name is Pucker Up, as I think it suits the hosta the best. Lemon Pucker, also great, and so is Sunny Side Up, as it immediately lets one know that the leaves are upward.

I also agree that there are too many names with the word "Gold",....while helpful in knowing the plant color, it also makes it difficult to remember the name, because of the bazillion hostas that start/end with Gold.

After studying the photo and your hosta's unique color, I think the word Pistachio in the title could be helpful: Pistachio Puck, Pistachio Pucker, Pistachio Crumble, Pistachio Pie...

Let us know what you choose! It took me 6 months to come up a name for my business...

Mary

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

I like Lemon Pucker, Don.

Don B.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Top three: Lemon Pucker, Limeade (it does have lemon and lime colours) and Pucker Up.

A slight variation of Limeade could also be Limonade???

For some reason, I keep thinking this hosta's future name should consist of two words. ...

Jo

Don: getting any closer to a " like"?

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Celebration of Angels.

==>>> but doesnt it look VERY SIMILAR ...????

not that that means anything in particular ... just triggered on old brain cell ...

ken

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Just an FYI, Streets of Gold is taken. I have one.

So did you settle on Hammered Gold after all, Don?

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Very nice (very cheery!), if you haven't chosen one, how about 'Repoussé Gold'?

Repoussé is a fun metalsmithing technique.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

I like Kate's earlier suggestion of Gator Gold since it fits the look of it perfectly. The alliteration works well too.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

I like Gator Gold, too.

Alliteration is taken....have that one, too.

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

Yellow Brick Road

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

That's funny...I had no clue there was a hosta named "Alliteration," so I wasn't very clear. I meant that the alliteration in "Gator Gold" (both words starting with "G") worked well in terms of sounding good.

I think it's a distinctive name that describes it well.

of course.. there already is a popcorn .. crikey.. didnt think of that until i saw it in writing... so what.. i rule... lol ...

 o
RE: Name for this new hosta?

I didn't read everyone of those posts. So someone may have already suggested it. How about Gator Hide. It might be too close to Rhino HIde, or it might not be.

There is an Alligator HIde listed, but it's not in the Hosta Library or the Hosta Finder. It must not be in distribution. It was registered by Kruer in 2009.

I think it needs a "tough" name. It looks like alligator hide or something like that. You don't want to give some "cute" name.
