Name for this new hosta?

donrawson

I need a name for this hosta seedling. It emerges very bright chartreuse in the spring and stays all summer. Very rugose and good substance. Right now it is a medium-sized plant, but I do not know what the mature size will be. Can you suggest a name for it?

I will be glad when this thread disappears from the main page.. I keep wanting to make up new names, and they are getting progressively more ridiculous... every time I think of a new one its worse than the last.. and it still makes me laugh.

Golden Jubilee has a classy vibe.
Gold Fever is a well known expression, easy to remember.

Sunny Side Up is already taken by Tony Avent. I have the hosta, new this year.

==>>> listen oh master of lists.. dont you think the 6 or 7 hundred named hosta.. with gold or golden in the first part of the name is enough???

you can do much better than any of these ...

    dazzler is a benedict word...

i swear there is a medal plant.. medal of honor ..

jewel ... already one gold that i hate with that name.. ruined enough JOTNiles for me

isnt golden sunshine a historical name for a yellow sieboldiana/tokuda???

june fever.. so dont go there ...

how about crinkly old bat turd ... [darn GW spell check.. lol]

it reminds me of indiana bobs crinkly thing way back when.. but i am blanking on it .... yankee doodle dandy ... but that one was streaked... he tried giving me a piece.. it went yellow.. then passed away ... pisser ... see link ... i thought the yellow version was something to do with city of angels.. but i dont find that in the library ....

you dont know its heritage at all???? for the pun game????

ya know.. it looks like a slime mold...

ok... time to go back outdoors ...

    Ken,
Indiana Bob hosta was Celebration of Angels.

  • User

Ahh, I love it when Ken is groovin.
Stream of consciousness literature drops like melted buttah from the sweat on his martini glass. Cheers, pal. I'm toasting you with my rum and Coke with a twist of lime, known "back in the day" as a CUBA LIBRE.....and that is no BOOK "libre" but the real thing. Poor Free Cuba, so many dreams gone, such a paradise but without a single hosta.

Celebration of Angels is a real halo above the gold hosta. An aura.

But Gold Fever still is simple, straight-forward, sliding easily between all the hoo-hah names and NAILING IT.

Jeesh, I missed all the fun here today...

Of the ones on your list, Don, I liked the ones near the end:

    Lemon Crush
    Lemon Pucker
    Lime Crush
    Limeade
    Pucker Up
    Sour Apple Pucker
    Streets of Gold
    Sunny Side Up

My favorite name is Pucker Up, as I think it suits the hosta the best. Lemon Pucker, also great, and so is Sunny Side Up, as it immediately lets one know that the leaves are upward.

I also agree that there are too many names with the word "Gold",....while helpful in knowing the plant color, it also makes it difficult to remember the name, because of the bazillion hostas that start/end with Gold.

After studying the photo and your hosta's unique color, I think the word Pistachio in the title could be helpful: Pistachio Puck, Pistachio Pucker, Pistachio Crumble, Pistachio Pie...

Let us know what you choose! It took me 6 months to come up a name for my business...

Top three: Lemon Pucker, Limeade (it does have lemon and lime colours) and Pucker Up.

A slight variation of Limeade could also be Limonade???

For some reason, I keep thinking this hosta's future name should consist of two words. ...

    Jo

Don: getting any closer to a " like"?

That's funny...I had no clue there was a hosta named "Alliteration," so I wasn't very clear. I meant that the alliteration in "Gator Gold" (both words starting with "G") worked well in terms of sounding good.

I think it's a distinctive name that describes it well.

I didn't read everyone of those posts. So someone may have already suggested it. How about Gator Hide. It might be too close to Rhino HIde, or it might not be.

There is an Alligator HIde listed, but it's not in the Hosta Library or the Hosta Finder. It must not be in distribution. It was registered by Kruer in 2009.

I think it needs a "tough" name. It looks like alligator hide or something like that. You don't want to give some "cute" name.
