There was only one mature plant. It was in the garden of Paula Lehtola in Bridgewater, MA and it was shown in the tour of her garden in the AHS convention in 2011. Since that time Paula has divided it. She sold a number of divisions to recoup the $3000 she spent for it at auction, and then sent a piece to be tissue cultured.
Luckily everyone at the convention took a picture of this plant before it was divided. Here's my pic.
Paula said that it took some time before the whale develops it's hump. I think the plant was 4 or 5 years old at the time of this picture.
Oh my. . Steve, Steve, what a bad boy you are. I was actually showing restraint. . .ok thin restraint, but it was at least some kind of restraint. Did anyone measure those leaves? Wozers. . . .
