Sea Gulf Stream and Spartacus

These two have nice big leaves this year. I've had SGS longer, but Spartacus caught up fast. I hate the name Spartacus, though...just doesnt seem to fit it.

I love them both! I only have Spartacus right now but I am adding SGS to my list.

What a beautiful Spartacus. I love the placement in the pot! I think it makes a huge difference in the ruffled edged hostas (to be raised off that ground that is).

Does your SGS keep that color all season? My new kick is sea foam colored hostas.

Nice shots of the family relatives - the resemblance is striking!
Love both plants! I have the former on order (should receive in the next couple of weeks), and I purchased a small Spartacus (one eye) last season. This year it's two eyes, but it already has greater presence, so I'm hopeful that it will prove to be as good a grower as yours!

Gesila, I really like this one in a pot, too. In fact, I'd like this to be Spartacus' permanent home but I have to lift it (it's in a plastic pot within a hypertufa pot) in the fall because anything I've ever left in this place has not overwintered well. I'm determined to not have any more shrinky dinks!

Yes, Sea Gulf Stream keeps its color very well...i have it on the north side of the house in bright shade, maybe an hour or two of direct sun. Even when I used to have it in deep shade, it was still a light green. I also appreciate that it does not desiccate like some of similar color.

Spartacus seems to be a strong grower. I got it a few years ago from NH hostas, so I didn't start with a huge plant- one or two eyes. SGS has been slower, but it did have one shrinky dink year thanks to my fall laziness.

Gesila, I've experimented with raising up some pots above the others, and it is a great way to feature a special hosta. It calls attention to it quickly.

I have both of the hosta mentioned. Sea Gulf Stream I got last year in June from Naylor Creek. It came out of dormancy impressive this year, and hasn't skipped a beat. It is holding to the gold color, added more ripples, and it is still a young immature plant.

I got Spartacus new this year from GreenMt. in VT. It arrived dormant, with 2 eyes, I think a 3d one showed up later.
