A garden visitor

Today I was honored to have a visitor to my garden She dug a hole, layed her eggs, and somehow managed to replace all the dirt and mulch so perfectly that you would never know she was there.
Each year we have turtles make the trek up from the swamp behind our house. It is a long way for those tiny hatchlings to get back to the water!

When will the eggs hatch?

It's really amazing, I just read up on this. They can actually hatch, and overwinter in the nest.

I almost stepped on a baby the other day, making its way to the pond. I knew it was too early for eggs to have hatched (I'm in Minnesota) so I looked it up. If they lay the eggs later in the summer, they hatch and stay in the nest til spring

You must have to watch every step with those little guys around. And what a polite visitor she is to replace the mulch so well. Turtles are so cute!

I have not seen a turtle this year. Last year one lived all strawberry season in that area between some bricks. This year something is back at the strawberries and I hope it is a turtle. Oh yeah they also like tomato on the vine. I love having them share and go eat some bugs.
