Yes Jim's Hosta is open to the public. Just drop him a email and let him know your coming so he can be sure to be home. Leave the checkbook and CC at home though :-). Can never get out of there without spending a few hundred :-)

Some may not know that the Dubuque Arboretum Hosta collection exist because of Jim's determined work to collect every hosta that ever existed.

He has also worked with other cities to help with efforts to establish other arboretums and volunteers have done all of the work at Dubuque. Many of the hostas available in the trade today are here due to his efforts to find and keep them. When I met him in Indy he was looking for and buying anything the arboretum did not have.

Of all the people I've met in hostadom he is the one I admire the most.

Hi Phil! Jim lives near the Arboretum. If He's not home it's because He is at the Natl. convention this weekend.
The Aboretum in Dubuque is the largest public Hosta display in the US, and well worth a visit. If you are a first-timer, there's massive display gardens of Roses, native wildflowers, and water features as well.
Like Jamie said, drop him a line first, or just show up. There's ususally someone there......if not, the Arborteum makes it worth the trip alone!!

OK, so this thread is 5 years old, I'll bump it anyway. I do crazy things for hostas.

Anyhow, I HAVE been to Jim's, and I loved it so much I want to go back and take my husband! (I went there in July of '11 on my way home to Cleveland OH from Cedar Falls IA.)

If I remember correctly (and I very well might not) Jim wasn't feeling so hot then. Does anybody know if he is still open to the public? I'm trying to plan waaay ahead for Spring of next year.
