Are you sure it's slugs, I've just started seeing cutworms?

Yes, I'm sure it's slimmy slugs. Well, I had 5 dead ones in my beer traps this morning anyway. I haven't seen them at night, but I haven't seen any cutworms either. They're only eating my expensive hydrangea, go figure. . .

Sluggo works for me. We get whopper snails and slugs all year around that eat anything green. I noticed that this year I haven't seen as many up in the eaves of the house... and I haven't had any around my hostas. The stuff works!

Do yourself a favor;drink the beer,and use something else,like 10% ammonia and water to spray them! Phil

I save eggshells year round and when my hostas and other perennials begin to emerge each spring, I sprinkle crushed eggshells heavily in a wide circle around the base of the emerging plants. Slugs/snails won't cross the eggshell barriers because the sharp edges cut them. As they disintegrate, the shells add nutrients to the soil.

I crush the shells into very small pieces with a potato masher.

Something is eating in my gardens now as well. Had to get out the slug candy and go shake it all over the gardens.. not sure if the bait.. or the sight of me shaking the can scares them off.

well. . . I tried the beer experiment. The past 3 day I have caught a total of 14 slimmy slugs. . . I also laid down egg shells, coffee grounds and 80 grit sand paper. . . cut off all low lying (already damaged) leaves to see if the problem persists.

Thus is life as a gardener. . .
