Looks like the normal color change that Yellow Polka Dot Bikini goes through. I don't see any symptoms of HVX.

My guess would be sun.

Here is my YPDB that I have in full sun all day. I bought it from Naylor this year and it is in a pot so I am fairly confident it does not have HVX.

Margaret, that's what mine looks like. I was concerned because of the appearance of bleeding between veins, such as yours shows.

This relieves me, as I am going to plant $160 worth of hostas tomorrow at my friend's house and I was extremely concerned of possibly transmitting HVX to her plants. I last used my shovel on the Yellow Polka Dot Bikini plant at least a year ago, when I planted it.

However, where did you get yours?

IMO I would rather be safe than sorry. It does not look like HVX to me, but if the plant came from a questionable source or may have been exposed to HVX I would keep it away from your large new purchase.

If this is based on paranoia ( I know much of this !) I would chalk it up to sun.

I can't remember where I got it, but it was probably either from Made in the Shade or HostasDirect, both of which advertise that their hostas are disease-free. I NEVER buy hostas at local nurseries or big-box stores, because I have personally seen flaming cases of HVX in their hostas. I only buy from online sources mentioned on this forum, such as Made in the Shade, HostasDirect, NH Hostas, IntheCountry, or Jim's Hostas.

With that said I would bet it would be safe to say it is not HVX.

You sound quite diligent about keeping hosta safe like I am :)

That looks like normal color change to me, it is between the veins and not coming from the veins. Ink bleeding is when the color looks as if the vein itself is bleeding, and the color oozes out from the vein line.
