 o
Paul's Glory or Gold Standard

I have both PG and GS. Now I think these two in beds are Gold Standards. The first is quite deep shade and the second one gets two hours morning and two hours evening sun. By mistake I have put PG in a pot and this is going to "rummage" sale.

GS in some sun?

PG in a pot?

We have very limited availibility another hostas - so I am quite sure these are GS and PG but I hope you can ensure me these very common hostas. Thanks.

The first two are Gold Standard; the last in the pot is Paul's Glory. Were I you, I'd dig up one of those Gold Standards, pot it, and keep the Paul's Glory. GS is more common than PG, but PG isn't rare. All three are very attractive plants that anyone should be proud to buy. Nance

Jarih: Going by the shape of the leaves, puckering and vein count I believe you have the captions correct and Paul's Glory if in the pot. If you are saying that you intended to pot and sell a Gold Standard but mistakingly potted the PG, I hope you replant your potted hosta.

It looks like a very nice, and healthy, relatively young Paul's Glory.

Here is my 4 year old PG for comparison. 11 vein pairs and my GS have 9 VP.

i agree with the above...

but they are all somewhat immature..

PG will look a lot different than GS at maturity ... showing more of its sieboldiana elegans background ... as compared to the GS Fortunei 'look' at maturity ... [leaf shape and texture]

it hard to see it with teenagers

Agreed with the above, too. I would replant that PG and sell a GS, but, that's just me! :)

Gee ken-you're RIGHT again. Suprise-suprise!

Going into its 4th season PG is a pubby, with the u like in ooh. My PG's next door neighbor is Old Glory of the same age and it has distinctively more shape like an elegans. Can't wait till next year for both.

Is Pauls Glory superior to Old Glory? I can't see any reason why. I have two very atttractive, mature Gold Standard and neither is going into the compost pile. But IMHO PG is far more impressive than a mature GS, even as a pre-teenie bopper.

For comparison, two mature plants, side by each...as my uncles used to say.

Paul's on the left...
