Mine is no longer growing after this past winter. And I know a couple of others who lost theirs this winter as well.

Totally a dud for me too! It's hanging on by a thread, and I mean that almost literally. There are just a few tiny roots coming from the crown. It's a couple years old and has been slowly dwindling away.

Lost it this last fall.

After reading this thread, I'm thinking I won't be replacing it.

Tropical Storm was the first hosta I lost. It never came back after the 2011 winter.

Isn't Tropical Storm from Rainforest Sunrise? That is another one I lost inexplicably, though it seems many people have no trouble with it. Maui Buttercups does well for me, though.

I wont be replacing TS if mine croaks, which is looking likely.

I've never had any problem with Maui Buttercups and Rainforest Sunrise... but my third year Tropical Sunrise came back as a cluster of little immature plants this year... I was willing to just blame it on our wet cold spring.

Once more - a new plant from good heritage that should be a easy, simple plant goes into tc and is massively marketed... and lots of plants from that first batch are trouble. I wonder if subsequent runs have been fine and we are all just battleing with a bad tc batch rather than a bad hosta...

Yes, a dud. Even though the variegation is bright and it has relatively heavy substance, it's a slow and poor grower. Mine remained as three or four eyes for a few years and then began sporting all-gold eyes. I dug it up and got rid of it.

If you want a great hosta that is similar to Tropical Storm in color and size, get Hawkeye or Radiant Edger. They are both good growers, have bright variegation contrast, and hold up well even in full sun. You can't beat 'em.

Guess I've just been lucky so far. The only problem I've had was an eye that reverted to what looks like Maui Buttercup. It's not a personal favorite or a fast grower, but looks healthy enough. Sounds like I'd better enjoy it while I can.

Madplanter, could you please post a picture of yours? Where is it planted? Does it have a lot of protection from sun and frost?
