Yep, to me this looks like HVX, more so than emergency #1. I know you've already been told but I wanted to bump this up so others can see what it looks like. My condolences but better to know sooner than later.

Thanks for letting me know your opinions. I think I am in disbelief right now and disappointed of course. I will be looking up info as to what to do with the hosta and, if I remember correctly, I will not be able to plant any hostas in that area. I thought both S&S were coming along so well too. (Yes, I actually have two!) I wish I had one of those HVX test kits. I will see about getting some. I don't think there is any more harm in leaving it there for the rest of the summer.

And Don, your thread helped me discover this virus. So that is a very good thing. Best to get the bad news sooner rather than later. I had a lot of fun taking leaf shots and looking through my photos for leaf shots already taken.

Beverly, I agree it is a good opportunity to see HVX on S&S. Thanks for bumping it up.

Here are my two S&S. You can see an infected leaf on the hosta on the left. (It is strange that it cannot be seen that well, probably due to the light color of S&S so the photo really helped!) Both hostas were purchased from a small local garden centre in 2011 (before I knew better). I think both hostas will have to be removed. I don't want to jeopardize my Liberty (purchased in 2012) from a reputable nursery. It is just three feet away.

Wait until after they have finished flowering to dig them up. It is much harder to spread the virus after they have finished flowering.
