That was my first thought, too. I've seen several grasshoppers, but no damage.

Sure could be grasshoppers. I've seen a few around, and two of my hostas got gobbled with holes very similar to yours. I sure do like your Grand Prize, even with the holes.

You could drape them with nets to keep the grasshoppers off.

(Sorry, I don't have any other ideas.)

The upside is they don't eat much, usually (They don't endanger the plant.) Then they are gone.

Look at the base of the plant and in and around it - looks more like cutworm damage to me

Don't know what you do with a plague of locusts, but (apart from the damage) you have some beautiful, otherwise healthy hostas that are worth showing off. Thanks for sharing.

Cut worms come up from the soil, so their damage is usually around the petiole.

This damage is on the outer edges.

Besides, cut worms are usually a spring problem.

Thanks Steve (and Babka). I'm going to keep an eye out for grasshoppers. I have seen two small ones which I eliminated but they were close to the house and that was last week. The damage has been going on for weeks. I was out with a flash light last night but saw nothing. I guess I will just have to check regularly at different times of the day and see if I can't spoit the culprit.
