Another view on the overcrowding situation.

You know we all talk about the fear of setting back a mature Hosta by dividing it.. However if you end up with a couple big guys rubbing shoulders, or possibly even pushing each other around..maybe its the perfect time to take a small bite of the edges, and start a new plant at your house or a friends. If it sets back the plant a LITTLE it won't be so bad , If you have reached the point of critical mass it might be an acceptable action. I do have a plant or two that liked the split. i wonder if there is a fraction you can safely remove as a guideline. Say never more than 4 eyes? or 5 percent of a thriving plant.. Just an idea that struck me reading others posts.
