| Good Morning!
I was under the impression that Patriot was a vase shaped, upright hosta? Mine does not appear that way and looking at pictures online, I'm not seeing it either. Am I mistaken or does someone have a good example of what I can expect? |

| Hi Lavender, Not sure where you might have seen Patriot described as vase shaped or upright. Hosta Library does not do so. Mine, shown below, has a nice spread to it.

| I meant to write 'Liberty', as that is what I thought I had, can't seem to find the tag. Now I'm totally confused as what I thought a Liberty, sort of looks like your Patriots (thanks Jill and Steve!). Anyone know how I can tell the difference? The plant is in fairly deep shade and is green and white, still a baby. No scapes thus far. |

| Liberty can be described as vase shaped and upright. There is no better picture than the one on the Hosta Forum Main Page, upper right. It might appear as green and white after a hot summer with a lot of sun, but usually it appears as green with a wide yellow margin. Gorgeous! Hostas can change greatly as they mature. If yours is still a baby and slowed down by deep shade, you will need to wait awhile to see what you have. Keep track of the blossoms (when and what color), and try posting a picture, perhaps next year. Folks here are good at sorting out the noids. Steve |

| Liberty? I have a very young one. Just got it this summer, still a baby, and it has been in mostly shade. Hmmm, hang on, I go find the picture.. Here it is on arrival. Fairly large leaves with the yellow margin. Long petioles which will crisp up in the pot. [url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/moccasinlanding/7264346050/][img]htt

| It occurs to me that it might be Victory you are talking about. It has a much narrower white margin than Patriot. But it is definitely green and white, no phase where it is yellow or even cream as far as I remember. Lets try a photo of Victory just for the heck of it. |

| I really wanted a vase shaped hosta-don't have one in my collection (although Red October qualifies I guess). Once the sun comes up I'll go examine my Patriot/Liberty and get her identity straight! Thanks ML, my baby looks nothing like your baby. I don't know how I got it in my head that she's a Liberty. Come spring I'll be on a mission to find one. |

| Yep, she's a Patriot. Hope she looks as good as Jill and Steve's when she matures. Thanks for the help all! |

| Want a dependable upright and very impressive hosta, Sagae and any of its progeny such as Liberty meet that wish, if you have space. You can always plant small hostas UNDER the canopy formed by the more upright hosta. Then there is also Krossa Regal or Regal Splendor if you desire the gn/wh variegation. Les |

| Les, I am so wanting a Liberty AND a Regal Splendor! They are on my wish list for next season. |
