two stalks in the house is enough to set my allergies into high gear... and I have a couple of spots in the gardens where a combination of time and day and a light breeze can leave people impressed - and then have to leave before they are overpowered like Dorothy and her friends in the poppy field - when a whole stand is open at once!

I brought a few stalks in this summer. Gave a not-overpowering scent to the living room. We found it very pleasant.

My plantiginea expired in a pot last winter, and you are making me very sad about that! I obviously need to replace it, and find it a spot in the ground.

Yes, I'm one who likes to bring blooms indoors... :-). Bouquets indoors, bouquets outdoors.

Hostanista, that's a really lovely display for your flowers! If it's to your liking, swirl a hosta leaf inside the vase....it could be P's leaf or a variegated one or whichever catches your fancy....I saw it in a decor magazine once and the impact was memorable. :-)

P is taking her time with her scapes and the wait for open flowers is loooong...like watching a kettle come to a boil....on the lowest setting!!

My young plantaginea are blooming on and off, but Mama herself is waiting for the most dramatic moment to send up her scapes and bloom for me. That one particular plant, from Plant Delights Nursery, began my fascination with hosta back in May 2010, then when she bloomed that August, I was hooked.

I have hopes for Doubled Up to be like his Mama.

I leave the scapes on the plant. I want to know if they are fertile. When I find out they are sterile, then I will cut them. It doesn't make sense to me that the fragrant hosta, with discernable scents, can be sterile. I mean, why try to attract pollinators with a fragrance if you don't back it up and create a seedpod with big fat seeds in it?
