In my zone 6 garden the hosta which get the least sun look the best throughout the season. All of my plants which get more than an hour of direct sun show scorch marks.

There are a few, such as great Expectations and Dream Weaver that require some sun to thrive.

I think a better question would be "which hosta do not thrive in shade?"

Good to know. I planted a few Hosta's and my neighbor told me I should move Pilgrim as it needs a few hours of sun each day. Got me thinking that maybe there was only a few Hosta's that could survive 100% shade.

FYI ... I don't think my neighbor is an expert. Just has her own ideas on things.

Most will survive all the shade, maybe not thrive, but ideally, they love some sun, too. By coincidence, I have several Guacamole hosta planted on the North side of my house, and they're doing just fine. Second year they've been there. They even blossomed nicely. It's not deep shade by any means, but they get really no direct sun. So it's worth experimenting with, in my opinion. I'm sure you'll get several more reponses to your querey. There are some varieties that do much better than others sited in shade.

P.S. I also have Fried Green Tomatoes, Holy Mole, Fried Bananas, Frances Williams, Remember Me, and Maui Buttercups in the same area, all doing well.

I'm growing a So Sweet in a pot under the roof of the atrium of my office building. It's bright shade, but no direct sunlight. It seems to be doing fine.
