Yes, but, most hosta are named things like Irish Luck, Gold Standard, Halcyon and Frances Williams. I even have one named Birchwood Parky's Gold. Most newbies have no idea what Irish Luck means, much less Birchwood Parky's Gold. I've had the BPG for about 5 years, and just recently found out what Birchwood was and who Parky was.

With thousands of named cultivars, there are few that are as simple as undulata albomarginata. There is a discussion going on about Japanese hosta naming conventions, which turned into Chinese naming conventions. At some point in these discussions/readings, my eyes cross.

I don't think most newbies are that interested. Most really don't care if their hosta is mislabeled. I had a independent nursery employee/manager hat she didn't care if that hosta was mislabeled as long as it was up and they could see what they were buying.

I think we are the only ones who give a rat's behind about correct naming.
